This agreement is between you and Rocha Tech LLC ("we", "us"), the developer of Lastout. It covers Lastout for Mac (the "App"), including the command-line tools lo and lastout-shell that come with it. By installing or using the App, you agree to it. If you don't agree, don't install or use it.
1. What you may do
Command-line tools. You may use lo and lastout-shell free of charge, on any number of computers, without a license key.
The App. After the trial, the App needs a license. A license lets one person use the App on up to 2 Macs that they own or control. It is personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable. A business that buys licenses for its staff needs one license for each person who uses the App.
2. Trial and beta builds
- Trial. You may use the App free for 14 days from its first launch. After that, copying from the App needs a license; the command-line tools keep working.
- Beta builds. A beta build works until the date shown in it (Settings → About), then asks you to update. Beta builds may have bugs and are provided for testing.
3. Updates
A license includes every update we release during one year from the day you buy it. After that period, the App keeps working with the last version you were entitled to, for as long as it runs on your Mac. Paying again later gives you a new update period.
4. What you may not do
- Share, sell, rent or publish your license key, or let more people use it than this agreement allows.
- Remove, bypass or disable the license check, or help others do so.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the App, except to the extent the law where you live allows it despite this restriction.
- Use the App to break the law, or to record terminals of other people without their permission.
5. Activation and your data
Activating a license sends your license key, and a name for the Mac it is activated on, to our license service to be checked. Nothing about your terminals, commands or their output is sent. Lastout's recordings stay on your Mac. What it records, where it keeps it and what can leave your Mac is described in the privacy policy: https://lastout.dev/privacy.html
6. Open-source components
The App includes open-source software under its own licenses. Their notices are in the App (Settings → About → Acknowledgements).
7. No warranty
The App is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. In particular:
- Recording relies on your shell and terminal; some output may not be recorded.
- Secret redaction recognizes common formats of keys, tokens and passwords. It cannot recognize every secret. Check what you copy before you paste it anywhere, especially into third-party services.
You are responsible for what you copy, paste and share.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from the App. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the license.
9. Your rights as a consumer
Nothing in this agreement limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the country where you live that cannot be waived by contract.
10. Ending this agreement
This agreement lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you break it; you must then stop using the App and delete it. You may end it at any time by deleting the App. Sections 7 to 9 survive the end of the agreement.
11. Changes
We may update this agreement for new versions of the App. The version that came with a release applies to that release.
12. Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of the country where you live requires otherwise.
